About Us
Thirubalasakhyam (The Pontifical Association of the Holy Childhood) is one of the four Pontifical Mission Societies of the Catholic Church, dedicated to nurturing the missionary spirit among children. Founded by Bishop Charles de Forbin-Janson in 1843, the movement encourages children to become young missionaries through prayer, sacrifice, charity, and evangelization. In the Kothamangalam Diocese, Thirubalasakhyam functions under the guidance of the diocesan catechetical and children's apostolate, actively serving in parishes, schools, and catechism centers.
The movement is guided by its inspiring motto, "Children Helping Children, Children Praying for Children." It teaches children to grow in faith while developing compassion, generosity, and concern for children around the world. Members are encouraged to pray daily for the missions, make small sacrifices, participate in charitable activities, and become witnesses of Christ in their families, schools, and communities. Through regular meetings, Bible reflections, catechism-based activities, missionary awareness programs, and leadership training, children develop a deeper relationship with Jesus and a greater understanding of the Church's universal mission.
Thirubalasakhyam celebrates important occasions such as Mission Sunday, Holy Childhood Day, Mission Month, Marian devotions, Bible quizzes, faith formation camps, and various parish-level competitions that strengthen children's spiritual lives. It also promotes outreach activities, visits to the sick and elderly, support for needy children, environmental initiatives, and community service projects. These experiences help children practice Christian values through action and foster a spirit of love and service.
In the Kothamangalam Diocese, Thirubalasakhyam plays a vital role in forming young disciples who are rooted in prayer, enriched by the Word of God, and inspired to serve others. With the support of parish priests, catechism teachers, animators, and parents, the movement provides a joyful and faith-filled environment where children can discover their talents, build lasting friendships, and grow as future leaders of the Church. By combining spiritual formation with missionary commitment, Thirubalasakhyam continues to shape children into compassionate, responsible, and Christ-centered individuals who actively participate in the mission of the Church.
